Grooming
The smooth, short-haired coat is easy to groom. Brush and comb with a firm bristle brush and shampoo only when necessary. After bathing, dry him quickly and thoroughly to prevent chill. The creases on the face must be cleaned regularly. This breed is a seasonally heavy shedder.
Exercise
Pugs are strong dogs with short straight legs. They enjoy energetic games and will keep in better health if given regular exercise. But be careful not to over do it, especially if you see them start to wheeze. In the Queensland climate exercise in Summer is best done in the very early morning or late afternoon/evening.
Eyes
Eyes in a Pug are prominent and subject to injury to a greater extent that eyes in most other breeds. When grooming the dog, wipe the eyes gently with a moistened soft washcloth or cotton swab. If you notice a bluish or grayish cloud over an eye, a very tiny indentation or any abnormality, seek veterinary attention immediately.
Ears
Ears are easily kept clean by wiping gently with a moistened face cloth or cotton swab, never attempt to introduce anything into the ear canal.? Excessive discharge, scratching or odour should be seen by your Vet.
Nails
Care should be taken to keep nails short and blunt to avoid injury during play. Nails that are kept short and blunt encourage the feet to remain more compact than if the nails are allowed to overgrow. The best article for clipping the nails is a special nail clipper for dogs. If you do not feel confident undertaking this task seek your Vets assistance.
